Celebrating One Month in Blog Land

Though the thought of this blog entered my mind last October, it didn't become a reality until a month ago today! (I can't believe it's already been a month! Neat!). I'm not sure exactly where it will go or how long I will write but knowing that YOU are taking the time to read makes my time writing worth while.

I would like to take a moment to thank you all for visiting and re-visiting my blog over the last two weeks. I am flattered, no, honored that you are reading. And a special thanks to those of you who have taken the time to share what I have written with others. You are too kind.

Here's too you!

And now for a couple of questions...
  1. Do you find this blog easy to navigate? What changes, if any, would you make in this regard?
  2. What are your favorite posts so far and why?
  3. What are some topics/ideas that you would like to see discussed on this blog?
  4. What have you seen so far that you'd like to see more of?
Thanks friends! I appreciate your feedback!

  1. Detta - I think it's safe to say that I really enjoy reading the variety of posts you have shared thus far. One of my favorites was the way you transformed your backyard! Amazing! But I also love that you stepped out and shared reading resources as well as ways you are creating a Catholic Culture in your home. Keep up the good work!

  2. I really enjoy the recipes! You can never have too many recipes :) I also really enjoy all the artsy crafty stuff you put on the blog. I love being crafty but I'm not very original with my ideas, and you are quite the crafty one with awesome ideas! I really liked your section on celebrating Lent with the littles. Keep it up, I love this blog!

  3. Hey B! It's Colleen~playing blog catchup. I think our apartment setups are really similar (Jess built an indoor jungle gym for busy little people), but I am wondering about sleeping set-up. What sleep situations and solutions have you come to? When did you transition to beds? Are all 3 in a room together? H is two, climbing out of the crib and almost potty trained, and A is almost 4 mos, sleeps like a champ, and I would LOVE them to safely and peaceably transition into the same room (A is still in our rm right now). From your (and other mommy experience) can a new bed, new sibling in room, and push for potty training all be done at the same time?

  4. Hey Colleen! Thanks for stopping by!

    The jungle gym sounds awesome!

Thank you for all of your questions. I am flattered that you asked and will give you honest answers based on our personal research and experience, but I don't pretend to be an expert, and if I've learned anything in these past 3 years it's that every child develops SO differently...as I'm sure you're finding out very quickly.

Our boys have a playroom/bedroom. Each toy has a place. All of the toys are put away in bins/boxes/closets before bed so that there is little temptation to get out and play. The boys both sleep in toddler sized beds on opposite ends of the room.

Because I breastfeed our babies until approx 1 year, I like to keep them in bed with me because then I don't have to get up to feed them 2-3 times/night (I've heard that co-sleepers work great for this but haven't invested in one yet).

Our first started sleeping in his toddler bed at 14 or 15 mo (he never slept in a crib...just couldn't get him to do it).

Our second started sleeping in his own bed at 11 mo. In hindsight, this seemed a little early to me (for HIM) but it could just be his cuddly personality. He is super clingy and always wants to be cuddled. That being said, he goes to sleep on his own quite nicely at both nap-time and bedtime.

Our third is 10 mo now and we think she may be ready for the big transition (totally different temperament than #1 and #2). We can now just put her in bed and shut the door and she'll go to sleep on her own(YAY!!!)...we think that this is a great indication that she is ready.

As far as new bed, potty training, and transitioning baby go...

From what I have read and from my experience with our littles, it seems like potty training is such a BIG THING that it has to be done all by itself...with no other BIG distractions. BUT, every child is so different...so your little lady might do very well handling all of the changes at the same time. I don't know how attached she is to her crib (would there be feelings of jealousy if baby #2 was placed in the crib?). My 2 cents is try potty training for 1 week...then, while still potty training hard core bring in a new "big girl" bed and then, when she is happy with her new bed and when you feel the time is right, start talking to her about the crib being her sisters bed now, and then make the last transition.

I'd love to know how it all works out!

    Good luck mama!

Would any other mothers like to weigh in???
